Description:

Edgewood Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the literary arts in Savannah, GA. Each year, we offer three Residency Sessions: Spring, Summer, and Fall. At the beginning of each session, two resident writers join the three directors of EA in a sunny five-bedroom house just across the street from the fountains of Daffin Park. The writers live and work together, providing each other with mutual support and feedback. The unique approach of our program gives the residents two ways of sharing their work: the critiques and the Chautauquas. Every week, we convene for a critique, which may take the form of a reading, a structured feedback session, or an informal symposium -- whatever the writers deem most useful. While the critiques are the resident's chance to receive feedback from a select audience of fellow writers, the monthly Chautauquas allow our residents to share their work with a larger audience. These high-energy open-mic events invite the Savannah community to join us as both audience members and storytellers.

Because Edgewood Arts is dedicated to the fundamental connection between art and community, all of our members also serve as teachers in our StoryBoard Program, an after-school arts education initiative. This program works to inspire middle-school students with the thrills and challenges of writing. We offer workshops in physical theater, poetry, and narrative storytelling. Edgewood Arts has working models of several curricula, and residents may either lead their own workshops or assist in a class led by one of our directors. There are also opportunities for residents to design their own curricula based on their areas of interest and expertise. As instructors for StoryBoard, our writers not only hone their craft by teaching it, but also encourage the next generation of writers.
