Description:

CityLit Project nurtures the culture of literature in Baltimore and throughout Maryland. CityLit builds and connects a community of avid readers and writers through public events, workshops, web resources, and publishing.

Named a "can't miss event on the city's cultural scene" (Baltimore Magazine), Citylit Festival is a free, day-long celebration of the literary arts.  Past guests have included Edward P. Jones, Steve Coll, Mark Doty, Elizabeth Spires, Junot Diaz, Thomas Glave, Jabari Asim, Tyehimba Jess, Mary Jo Salter, and Paul Rusesabagina.  The seventh edition in 2010 features Elizabeth Kostova, Sam Lipsyte, Maryland Poet Laureate Stanley Plumly, actress and NAACP Image Award winner Victoria Rowell, and poets Ron Egatz (Beneath Stars Long Extinct), John Murillo (Up Jump the Boogie), Paul Nelson (A Time Before Slaughter), January G. O’Neil (Underlife), and Shelly Puhak (Stalin in Aruba).  Attendees can catch many other acclaimed writers and emerging voices, as well. Returning favorite programs include Poet's Ink workshops, Poetry by Place readings, the Maryland Humanities Council's "Letters About Literature" ceremony, and the ever-popular busting Literary Marketplace.

CityLit partners with several other local cultural institutions, such as Enoch Pratt Free Library, Walters Art Museum, Baltimore Museum of Art, and Creative Alliance.
